2010 – iTunes Store Tops 10 Billion Songs Sold.
iTunes does it again. Pretty impressive… and Johnny Cash earns yet another footnote in Music History.
CUPERTINO, California—February 25, 2010—Apple® today announced that music fans have purchased and downloaded over 10 billion songs from the iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com), the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store. The 10 billionth song, “Guess Things Happen That Way” by Johnny Cash, was purchased by Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Georgia. As the winner of the iTunes Countdown to 10 Billion Songs, Louie will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card. iTunes is the number one music retailer in the world and features the world’s largest music catalog with over 12 million songs.

2008 – The daughter of late country star Johnny Cash called the use of her father’s name to endorse a US presidential candidate ‘appalling’. Country star John Rich implied Mr Cash would have backed Republican hopeful John McCain while appearing at a rally in Florida, according to media reports. Writing on her website, Roseanne Cash called the remarks ‘presumptuous’. ‘Even I would not presume to say publicly what I ‘know’ he thought or felt,’ she added.
2006 – the house where Johnny Cash lived for 35 years was bought by Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb. The rustic house near Nashville, Tennessee went on the market in June 2005 with an asking price of $2.9m (£1.7m). Gibb said he planned to preserve the house to honour the Cash memory.
1998 – Johnny Cash returns to a Nashville stage and performs for the first time since has was stricken with Shy-Drager Syndrome the preceding October. Cash joins a surprised Kris Kristofferson, who is singing Cash’s “Sunday Morning Coming Down” at “Witness History II,” a tribute to Cash and Waylon Jennings at the Ryman Auditorium.
1932 – Country star Johnny Cash is born in Kingsland, Ark. He writes his first song at age 12. Among his No. 1 country hits are “I Walk the Line” in 1956, “Don’t Take Your Guns to Town” in 1959, “Ring of Fire” in 1963 and “A Boy Named Sue” in 1969. He is elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980.
