2006 – Award winning South African R&B singer TK (real name Tsakani Mhinga) is found dead at a hotel in Johannesburg’s Randburg suburb. The singer-songwriter is 27. An autopsy determines that a drug overdose is the cause of Deaths.
2006 – Ex-teen star Leif Garrett is arrested for possession of drugs and attempting to travel on Los Angeles’ subway line without a ticket. Guess that answers the question of who the hell uses L.A.’s public transport system.
2006 – Troubled Babyshambles frontman/ex-Kate Moss squeeze Pete Doherty is arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs and driving under the influence of drugs in London.
2005 – Irv and Chris Gotti are cleared of charges that they used their record label The Inc. to launder millions in drug proceeds. Unfortunately, they still have to release Ja Rule’s next album.
2005 – Courtney Love is sentenced to a chemical dependency program after a judge finds she has broken her probation. Love admitted to taking drugs in July.
2005 – Victor Edward Willis, better known as the original cop with The Village People, is arrested in California for after police allegedly find a gun and drugs in his car.
2005 – A $100,000 (£58,823) statue honouring the late punk guitarist Johnny Ramone was unveiled by his widow Linda at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. 2005 – D’Angelo, the R&B singer who only makes an album every five years, is arrested for drunk driving and drug possession outside of Richmond, Va. Make that “an album every 10-20 years.”
2004 – A coroner’s report says the late Rick James (“Superfreak”) had nine drugs in his system including cocaine, methamphetamine, valium and vicodin when he died in August.
2004 – Courtney Love is sentenced to 18 months probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge. She is also ordered to attend rehab.
2004 – Guitarist Pete Doherty tells The Sun tabloid he is leaving UK rock band the Libertines and going to France to try and kick drugs. “I’m out of the band,” he says. “Surely no one wants to see me trapped in this cage that is only making me miserable.”
