2007 – U2 singer Bono accepted an honorary knighthood at a ceremony in Dublin. Fellow band members The Edge and Adam Clayton joined the frontman’s wife and four children at the British ambassador David Reddaway’s official residence. The rock star and campaigner, 46, was not entitled to be called “Sir” because he is not a British citizen. The U2 singer’s new title is Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE).

2006 – U2′s Bono and the Edge team with Pearl Jam and join Aussie acts Jet, Paul Kelly, Eskimo Joe, Evermore and the John Butler Trio at a Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne. The event draws 14,000 to the Myer Music Bowl, and is broadcast to thousands more on giant screens through Melbourne, Brisbane and two major Victorian regional towns Geelong and Bendigo.
2005 – U2 frontman Bono urges the European Union to step up efforts to support the disadvantaged in Africa. Speaking in Brussels after meeting European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, Bono says the EU is facing a crisis of confidence because its citizens do not share the ideas promoted by political leaders.
2005 – Bono and the Edge aren’t on hand to rub shoulders on stage with Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson and Trace Adkins, but U2 do have a presence during the FedEx Orange Bowl 2005 National Championship Game halftime show when a two-minute version of the video for the band’s “All Because of You” receives its world premiere during ABC’s live broadcast of the game.
2004 – U2′s Bono is the guest editor for the day on BBC Radio 4′s flagship news program, Today. Among the features, British chancellor Gordon Brown addresses the problem of world poverty and a report traces Riverdance’s Islamic roots.
2004 – Band Aid 20′s new version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” goes on sale in the UK. The song is performed by, among others, Bono, Paul McCartney, Travis, The Darkness, Coldplay, Robbie Williams and Dido.

2004 – U2 frontman Bono tries to persuade European Union ministers to extend debt relief programs for the world’s poorest countries when he addresses a special meeting in Dublin.
2004 – The NFL turn down Bono’s (U2) request to perform a new song, “An American Prayer,” with Jennifer Lopez during the Super Bowl halftime show. The U2 singer hoped to raise awareness of AIDS in Africa with the tune. The NFL say, “We don’t believe it’s appropriate to focus on a single issue.”
