Carey wins top R&B/hip-hop artist in both the overall and female categories, as well as hot R&B/hip-hop songs artist, top R&B/hip-hop albums artist and top R&B/hip-hop album for her multi-platinum set “The Emancipation of Mimi.”
2006 – Led Zeppelin and conductor/artistic director Valery Gergiev are awarded the 15th annual Polar Music Prize on by His Majesty King Carl Gustaf XVI of Sweden. The prestigious prize is presented during a nationally televised ceremony from Konserthuset, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert hall, where the annual Nobel Prize ceremony is held.
2006 – Maroon 5, Lil Jon and Crosby, Stills & Nash were among those honored at BMI’s 54th annual Pop Awards ceremony, held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. Maroon 5 takes song of the year honors for “She Will Be Loved.
2006 – Carrie Underwood is the top winner at the CMT Music Awards, landing two of the three awards for which she is nominated. Meanwhile, Keith Urban takes home the evening’s top prize, video of the year for his “Better Days” clip.
