2011 – Steven Tyler from Aerosmith admitted that his addiction to drugs was so drastic that he hid cocaine in a drum on stage to take a fix during shows.
“I blew 20 million. I snorted my Porsche, I snorted my plane, I snorted my house in that din of drugs and booze and being lost.”
2011 – New Aerosmith release announced… Rock on! Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler said on Tuesday the band would start work on its first new studio album in a decade, and promised that his new gig as a judge on “American Idol” would not get in the way.
“We’ve certainly been writing,” Tyler, 62, told journalists. “I know (guitarist) Joe (Perry) has got some licks and I’ve got a bunch of songs that I’ve written for solo and/or Aerosmith, and next Saturday, we start.”
He said his bandmates would join him in Los Angeles, where he will tape “American Idol.” The show’s 10th season premieres on Wednesday. Last week, he said Aerosmith would tour Japan and South America at the end of year after his “Idol” commitments are over.
“What you hear in the press about Aerosmith getting in the way of ‘American Idol,’ it just isn’t so,” he added on Tuesday.
Aerosmith has sold more than 150 million albums since forming in 1970, but a 2009 feud between Tyler and his bandmates threatened to break up the so-called “Bad Boys of Boston.”
The band has tried several times to record a follow-up to 2001′s “Just Press Play,” but has been thwarted by various injuries. Internal frustrations overheated when Tyler fell of the stage in the middle of a song, bringing their 2009 summer tour to a premature end.
His decision last year to join the pop-oriented “American Idol” raised a lot of eyebrows. But he said fans would get to see a “more vulnerable, more honest” side of him on the show.
“All that TV is getting is that other side of me. It’d be like if there were reality cameras in the house while the kids were growing up. That’s the side of me they’re seeing. And if Aerosmith fans don’t like that, then all they saw was the ominous, dark — or open, however you choose to see me — (side of me) onstage when Aerosmith comes to town.
Tyler said his contract with the top-rated singing contest was for more than one year. But asked about the future, he said evasively “as you know, things are what they are.”

As reported earlier by Miaminewtimes.com, Joe Perry will join Academy Award-nominated actress-turned-rock star JULIETTE LEWIS on stage during the pre-game tailgate party for the Miami Dolphins game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday (November 18th).
The event starts at 7 PM at Land Shark Tailgate Stage at Sun Life Stadium (2267 Dan Marino Blvd.), Miami Gardens. The tailgating is free with game tickets.
Other bands on the tailgating bill include POISON’s Bret Michaels and CHEAP TRICK.
2010 – Aerosmith announced yesterday that they will be adding more European dates to its summer itinerary to follow up the booking at this year’s Download Festival in England.
Effectively signaling a settling of differences with frontman Steven Tyler that had the other band members threatening to seek another singer — temporarily, according to guitarist Joe Perry — Aerosmith will precede its June 13 Download date with an appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival on June 10 in Solvesborg. A U.K. spokeswoman for the band tells Billboard.com that other European dates will be announced shortly.
“There’s no Aerosmith without Steven Tyler,” notes Download promoter Andy Copping of Live Nation U.K. “There’s no point in entertaining anything other than (with) Steven Tyler.” Copping adds that an Aerosmith without Tyler “was never part of the conversation” with the group’s representatives.
The group has also been offered tour dates in South America, but nothing has been announced yet. No North American shows have been mentioned, and there’s also no word on if and when Aerosmith plans to resume work on the new album it was recording in Brendan O’Brien, which was sidelined by Tyler and Perry’s health issues.
Tyler has been in rehab since late December for an addiction to painkillers. Perry has been touring with his Joe Perry Project to support his latest album, “Have Guitar, Will Travel,” while drummer Joey Kramer has been promoting his autobiography, “Hit Hard: A Story of Hitting Rock Bottom at the Top.” Guitarist Brad Whitford is gearing up for an Experience Hendrix tour that starts March 4 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
2009 – Aerosmith, the Guitar hero Tour will be missing Brad Whitford…
Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford will be missing the opening string of dates of the band’s Guitar Hero tour while he recovers from recent surgery.
The nature of Whitford’s medical condition and surgery have not been specified. However, in true show-must-go-on tradition, Aerosmith will hit the road with guitarist Bobby Schneck, who has performed with Green Day, Weezer and Slash as a temporary replacement.
Undoubtedly, Schneck has been listening to nothing but Toys In The Attic and Rocks on his iPod, as in a recent interview MusicRadar, guitarist Joe Perry indicated that the band would be playing both albums in their entirety.
A series of health-related issues for Aerosmith
The news of Whitford’s absence from the summer tour with ZZ Top is but the latest in a series of health-related problems to plague Aerosmith: Progress on the group’s new record was put on ice after Joe Perry required knee surgery last year. In addition, singer Steven Tyler has undergone both throat and foot surgery, then came down with pneumonia.
Additional setbacks notwithstanding, the tour will begin this Wednesday, 10 June, at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater in St. Louis, Missouri.
2008 – Armstrong and Getty: Cleavelend’s ‘Rock -n- Roll Hall of fame’ annouces ‘Run DMC’, famed for ‘Walk this way’(written by Aerosmith), will be inducted into the hall of fame. Excluded from the nominees are Stevie Ray Vaughn and Bon Jovi to name but a few.
Morning talk show hosts ‘Armstrong and Getty’ displayed their dismay of the announcement reffering to it as the ‘RECTUM OF FAME’ and intimating that Cleveland itself isn’t really the city you think of when you think ‘Rock-n-Roll’. Although, it is argued to be the birthplace of rock because of the DJ who first played it… well why not where it was first recorded… is that Memphis… or Los Angeles… I dunno…
This editor thinks they are greatly in the right by saying so. I think they should make a pre-requistie that you have to know how to play ‘Johnny B. Goode’ on the guitar before you can be nominated.
Run DMC before Stevie Ray Vaughn… it should be called the ‘Hall of Shame’.
2008 – Confirming long standing rumors, Activision announced this morning that they’re teaming with rock band Aerosmith to produce an entirely new “Guitar Hero” game dedicated solely to virtually playing along with their songs, titled simply “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith”.
Lyrics:
Well on a train, I met a dame
She rather handsome
We kinda look the same
She was pretty
From new york city
Im walkin down that old fair lane
Im in heat, Im in love
But I just couldnt tell her so
(chorus)
I said, train kept a rollin all night long
Train kept a rollin all night long
Train kept a rollin all night long
Train kept a rollin all night long
With a heave, and a ho
But I just couldnt tell her so, no, no, no
Well, get along
Sweet little woman get along
On your way
Well, get along
Sweet little woman get along
On your way
Im in heat, Im in love
But I just couldnt tell her so, no, no, no
Well on a train, I met a dame
She rather handsome
We kinda looked the same
She was pretty
From new york city
Im walkin down that old fair lane
Im in heat, Im in love
But I just couldnt tell her so
(chorus)
Well, get along
Sweet little woman get along
On your way
Well, get along
Sweet little woman get along
On your way
Im in heat, Im in love
But I just couldnt tell her
Well, we made a stop in albequerque
She musta thought
I was a real cool jerk
Got off the train, and put her hands up
Lookin so good, I couldnt let her go
But I just couldnt tell her so
(chorus)
Im in heat, Im in love
But I just couldnt tell her
Typical of a “Guitar Hero” announcement, the track list is currently a secret, but the press release did name-drop “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “Love in an Elevator,” “Dream On,” and “Sweet Emotion.”
In fact, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners will have a chance to download a copy of “Dream On” for “Guitar Hero III” for free over Xbox Live and PlayStation Network from February 16-18.
“On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers, helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games,” said Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler in the press release. “It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats–and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands.”
This isn’t the band’s first appearance in modern music games, either. The MTV Rhythm Game Track Finder shows that Aerosmith has had six songs spread across the “Guitar Hero,” “Karaoke Revolution” and “Rock Band” franchises.
Neversoft, the same folks behind last fall’s “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock,” is behind the Aerosmith, “Guitar Hero” collaboration. If you haven’t yet upgraded to a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 yet, no worries; “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” is also coming to Wii (in stereo this time, we hope) and PlayStation 2, courtesy of Vicarious Visions and Budcat respectively. No word yet on a PC or Mac version.
“Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” drops on all platforms in June, but as we mentioned, this isn’t the first time Aerosmith has invaded games, far from it. Certainly, you remember shooter classic “Revolution X”? No? Just a little?
Discover the breadth of Aerosmith’s gaming journeys by reading on.
Aerosmith is probably best known for “Midway”’s light gun shooter “Revolution X.” Our favorite moment comes only a few minutes into the adventure, which is about as much as we could take while revisiting the “classic.” Picture this: a club shoot-out involving hundreds of copy-cat thugs taking aim at the player suddenly climaxes with a heavily pixelated Aerosmith rocking out on stage for a crowd of zero, only to be rudely interrupted mid-song and kidnapped by the evildoers. Clearly, the player must put a stop to such madness.
This isn’t the band’s first stint with a guitar simulator, either. “Quest for Fame”, released all the way back in 1995 by Virtual Music Entertainment, actually came bundled with a V-Pick. While the V-Pick wasn’t quite as elaborate as the five-button “Guitar Hero” controller, the V-Pick detected motion and allowed players to strum along to different Aerosmith songs using just about anything shaped like a guitar — a tennis racket, for example.
2006 – Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton was undergoing treatment for throat cancer causing him to sit out the first half of the band’s Route of All Evil Tour, the first time he would miss any shows in the band’s history. Longtime band friend David Hull filled in for Hamilton until his return.
2006 – Aerosmith cancel their North American tour as Steven Tyler enters hospital for throat surgery. A publicist denies the singer is suffering from throat cancer.
2003 – Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Elton John and Kiss perform on Dick Clark’s 32nd annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Newlyweds Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey join the ageless TV impresario to countdown the New Year in Times Square.
2003 – Making a clear indication that nothing is beneath them, Aerosmith perform the Hank Williams Jr. classic theme song “Are You Ready For Some Football?” live on Monday Night Football.
