2008 – Amy Winehouse was admitted into rehab in a battle to kick her addiction to drugs. A statement from her record company, Universal said she entered the facility “after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors to continue her ongoing recovery against drug addiction.”

2006 – Lead singer Justin Hawkins announces he is leaving mock rockers The Darkness (“I Believe in a Thing Called Love”). He blames his addictions to drugs and alcohol for the decision.

2006 – Hunky Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and teen fantasy Carmen Electra announce they are splitting after three years of marriage. Their beautiful division is described as “amicable.”

2006 – Tabloid favorite Pete Doherty of The Libertines and Babyshambles checks himself into rehab in Portgual. The heroin addict had recently shocked a MTV News crew by squirting a syringe of blood at the camera.

2006 – During its second annual benefit concert at the Music Box/Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, the MusiCares MAP Fund, a non-profit organization aimed at helping music industry professionals with addiction recovery treatment, present Metallica.

2004 – A statement appears on Dave Navarro’s Web site claiming Jane’s Addiction have split for good. “The deal is that it simply didn’t work out,” it says in part. “In all honesty, we have broken up and rejoined roughly four times over the years. Perhaps that should shed some light as to where we are now.”

2004 – Pete Doherty enters drug rehab on This Day in Rock. Doherty recently scored a Top 10 UK hit, “For Lovers”.

2004 – Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy enters rehab to treat an addiction for painkillers, pushing back the release of their A Ghost is Born album. Tweedy is known to suffer from migraine headaches.

2003 – Jane’s Addiction play a surprise “flash-mob” gig in London’s Convent Garden. Fans were directed via text message to the location, where they play favorites like “Had a Dad.”

2003 – British singer Robert Palmer, best known for his dapper dressing style and his iconic videos in the 1980s for songs like “Addicted to Love,” dies. He is 54. Palmer, who had lived in Switzerland for the previous 16 years, dies in Paris after a quiet dinner and a movie.

2003 – Pete Doherty of UK rockers the Libertines confesses he is addicted to crack cocaine and heroin after he is caught breaking into the London apartment of bandmate Carl Barat.
