2012 – Paul McCartney receives France’s highest public distinction on This Day in Rock Music History! Honored for his contributions in music from President Francois Hollande by making him an officer of the Legion of Honour at the presidential palace.

McCartney, who turned 70. this year, joins the company of greats Clint Eastwood and Robert De Niro, and singers Liza Minnelli and Lenny Kravtiz.

The musician has already been awarded a knighthood by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth. He recently performed in front of the queen and tens of thousands of spectators at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
