2012 – Michael Jackson, King of Pop dances on Pepsi Cans on This Day in Rock History! On Billion cans will adorn the Pop Idol’s image in a deal between his estate and Pepsi. Originally doing commercials in the 80’s in an ad campaign called “the choice of a new generation”, this promotion happens for the 25th anniversary and also conicides with the anniversary of “Bad”.
This is part of Pepsi’s “Live for Now” campaign, wanting to harness pop culture to boost sales. The deal includes promotions from Sony Records, Cirque du Soleil’s, the cans will first appear in China, then the US, and finally Asia, South America and Europe later in 2012.
“We are thrilled to bring Michael and Pepsi back together, as they were in 1988, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ‘Bad’ album and tour and to put Michael on one billion Pepsi cans,” John Branca and John McClain, the executors of Jackson’s estate, said in a statement.
