2011 – Eric Clapton puts several personal items up for auction on This Day in Rock! Rock fans from around the world will be able to buy a piece of music history today. Guitar legend Eric Clapton has put up several personal items for auction at Bonhams in New York City. Proceeds from the event will benefit Crossroads, a treatment center that Clapton established in Antigua.The musical memorabilia featured in the auction ranges greatly in value. A 2005 Fender amplifier is expected to sell for $300 to $400 while a 1948 Gibson guitar may be bring in as much as $30,000. The auction also features several gold records belonging to Clapton and certificates of achievement from his record company.
This is the third fund-raising auction that Clapton has held for Crossroads. In 2004, he raised $7.4 million for the treatment center, and a 1999 auction brought in another $5.1 million.
