1982 – Toto release their No. 2 single “Rosanna.”

Lyrics:
All I wanna do when I wake up in the morning is see you eyes
Rosanna, rosanna
I never thought that a girl like you could ever care for me, rosanna

All I wanna do in the middle of the evening is hold you tight
Rosanna, rosanna
I didnt know you were looking for more than I could ever be

Chorus:
Not quite a year since she went away, rosanna yeah
Now shes gone and I have to say
Meet you all the way, meet you all the way, rosanna yeah
Meet you all the way, meet you all the way, rosanna yeah

I can see your face still shining through the window on the other side
Rosanna, rosanna
I didnt know that a girl like you could make me feel so sad, rosanna

All I wanna tell you is now youll never ever have to compromise
Rosanna, rosanna
I never thought that losing you could ever hurt so bad

Chorus

(instrumental break)

Chorus

Meet you all the way, meet you all the way, rosanna yeah
Meet you all the way, meet you all the way, rosanna yeah

Toto was an American rock band founded in 1976 by some of the most popular and experienced session musicians of the era. The band enjoyed great commercial success in the 1980s, beginning with the band’s self-titled debut, released in 1978, which immediately brought the band into the mainstream rock spectrum of the time. Continuing with 1982′s critically acclaimed and commercially successful Toto IV, Toto became one of the biggest selling music groups of their era. They also composed the theme music for the film Dune. Although their popularity in the United States diminished in the 1990s and 2000s, they continued to tour and sold out arenas, clubs, and theaters internationally. Toto was known for their technical prowess in the studio, as well as a musical style that combines elements of pop, rock, soul, funk, progressive rock, hard rock, R&B, and jazz, and although they were regularly associated with the soft rock genre, and particularly the neo-progressive rock genre, this broad array of musical styles helped them appeal to a variety of musicians and non-musician listeners. The band released 17 albums and have sold over 30 million records to date. Their 18th release Falling In Between Live, was released in August 2007. It had been recorded in March 2007 in Paris. As a result of guitarist Steve Lukather’s departure from the band, Toto broke up after the last leg of their 2008 tour.

This is about actress Rosanna Arquette. She was dating Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time, but Porcaro didn’t write it. It was written by Toto leader David Paich. He decided to write it about Arquette when he saw how supportive she was of Porcaro. Arquette often came by the studio and brought the band food.

Arquette liked this at the time, but since breaking up with Porcaro, she can’t stand it.

Many listeners assumed Arquette was involved with lead singer Bobby Kimball, since he was singing the song.

Porcaro is not the only musician Arquette has dated. She also went out with Peter Gabriel.

This won a Grammy for Record Of The Year and helped Toto IV win for Album Of The Year.

Toto’s first 7 albums contained at least one song with a girl’s name as the title.

The girl who played Rosanna in the video will look familiar to fans of the movie Dirty Dancing: It’s Cynthia Rhodes, who played Penny Johnson in the movie. Rhodes is married to Richard Marx.
