According to Reuters, the JASON BONHAM‘S LED ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE tour grossed $2.1 million after playing 38 cities and cracked the top 50 of trade publication Pollstar’s annual top tours list. Bonham is expected to launch a second leg in the spring, although details have not been announced.
Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience – a unique trifecta of an amazing rock concert featuring the unforgettable blues-rock of Led Zeppelin, an over-the-top video and light show as well as the personal history that Jason Bonham shares in commemoration of his father with the legendary rock n’ roll band – just wrapped a successful 39-city North American tour.
The critically acclaimed North American trek (see critical soundbites below) stunned audiences and featured Jason Bonham on drums, Tony Catania on guitar and theremin, Michael Devin on bass, Stephen Leblanc on keyboardists/pedal-steel guitars and James Dylan on lead vocals. The tour included a roof-raising, jam-packed show at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood late last month which saw Jason’s younger sister Zoe Bonham perform blues-harp on the Zeppelin classic ‘When The Levee Breaks’.
“I never imagined we’d receive the reaction we’ve been getting,” explains Jason. “It’s beyond my wildest dreams to come out represent my family, my father and the music of Led Zeppelin.”

The John Bonham Story, narrated by Dave Grohl (THE FOO FIGHTERS, THEM CROOKED VULTURES), will air 3 PM (BST) Monday, May 31, on BBC6 Music. LED ZEPPELIN guitar legend Jimmy Page dropped by BBC6 Music to talk about the documentary regarding his former comrade in arms, John Bonham. The two-part interview with host Lauren Laverne can be heard at this location.
“John Bonham was an extraordinary musician – head and shoulders above anyone around him,” Page remarked during the interview. “He had a definite vision of the drums, and how they should be played and how they would fit in with a band. It’s without doubt that his technique was beyond everybody else’s, and that’s why he’s so looked to, and looked back to with such reverence and love.”
Regarding Zeppelin’s early beginnings Page recalled: “I wanted it to be blues and for it to be rock, plus an eclectic taste – the way “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” was planned –no one else had done that before. John Bonham brought so much spirit to it – we were four musical equals and John was the backbone of the band. I certainly wanted to make something that was lasting.”
About Led Zeppelin performing again Page responded: “I never ruled anything out after the O2.’’
2010 – Radio Station, “Absolute Classic Rock” names, “Stairway to heaven” the UK’s favorite classic rock song on This Day in Rock! Listeners of the famed radio station voted in 2 other tunes from the Zep as well… “Whole lotta love” at No. 4, and “Rock n’ Roll” at No. 7.
And on Feb. 14th, 1992, Wayne Campbell is denied playing his fav song in a music store!
2010 – A very rare Led Zeppelin recording from a 1971 gig at St Matthew’s Baths Hall in Ipswich, England was unearthed at a car boot sale on This Day in Rock.
The bootleg copy of the audio from the group’s gig on November 16th 1971 was picked up for just “two or three pounds” by music fan Vic Kemp. “I was going through a stand of CDs at the car boot at Portman Road and the guy who was selling them said, ‘You might be interested in this,’” Vic Kemp told the Evening Star. “It must have been recorded by someone standing at the front with a microphone. You can hear Robert Plant talking to the audience quite clearly.”
2010 – A rare Led Zeppelin live recording has been unearthed – in a car boot sale. The band’s celebrated gig at St. Matthews Baths Hall, a converted swimming pool in Ipswich, during November 1971 was never actually recorded. Or so everyone thought.
However, Zeppelin fan Vic Kemp came across a CD of the entire gig while rummaging through a car boot sale in Ipswich.
Just goes to prove, if you’re prepared to look carefully you never know what gem might be discovered in the oddest of places!
2010 – Roger Daltrey wants to start a super-group with Jimmy Page.
The Who singer is keen to form a new band with the Led Zeppelin guitarist and go back to the blues roots he established before he started writing songs with bandmate Pete Townshend.
He told UK radio station BBC6 music: “I’d love to do something, I’d love to do an album with Jimmy Page. He needs a singer to drive him. I’m a great blues singer.
“I don’t sing the blues with The Who, but that’s what I used to be before Townshend started writing. I used to be a great blues singer.”
The project is more likely to happen as the future of The Who is uncertain, following comments made by 64-year-old Pete revealed he may have to stop performing because of a recurring problem with tinnitus – a painful ringing in the ears, a symptom of noise-induced hearing loss.
He said: “If my hearing is going to be a problem, we’re not delaying shows. We’re finished. I can’t really see any way around the issue.”
Meanwhile, Jimmy Page has spoken of his frustration at not being able to make a Led Zeppelin reunion happen.
The other surviving members of the group are busy, with singer Robert Plant recording a new album with vocalist Alison Krauss, and bassist John Paul Jones joining super-group Them Crooked Vultures.
Jimmy said: “You’d better ask Robert Plant what the future of Led Zeppelin is. Musicians can always play together but I don’t think you can go out with a band called Led Zeppelin if you haven’t got the original vocalist.”
Jimmy has, however, spoken of his desire to get a new musical project off the ground this year, which could pave the way for Roger’s plan.
He previously said: “Next year I have every intention of playing music live and manifesting it. I’ve got the music waiting, and that’s what I’ll be doing.”
2007 – Led Zeppelin played their first concert in 19 years, at London’s 02 arena. Original band members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones were joined on stage by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham. More than one million people had taken part in a ballot for the 9,000 pairs of tickets available for the show.
2007 - the surviving members of Led Zeppelin announced they would reform for a star-studded tribute concert in London. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones would play at a show to remember the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. The place of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980, would be taken by his son Jason. The one-off concert, the trio’s first performance for 19 years, would take place at the O2 arena in London on 26th November with tickets costing £125. All profits from the show would go towards scholarships in Ertegun’s name in UK, the USA and Turkey, the country of his birth.
