2001 – Composer Monty Norman is awarded 30,000 pounds after a London High Court jury decides he had been libeled in a newspaper article that claimed he did not write the theme song to the James Bond films.

2001 – Four teenage girls are crushed to Deaths in a shopping mall in Jakarta, Indonesia, when hundreds of fans panic while trying to catch a glimpse of the British boy band a1. The four band members are “devastated” and cancel the rest of their tour in Asia.
2001 – Singer Ayman takes top honors at the Echo Awards in Berlin. He wins for national rock/pop artist and national newcomer. Limp Bizkit’s “Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water” and Guano Ape’s “Don’t Give Me Names” win in the international and national rock/metal categories, respectively.
2001 – Peter Blake, who designed The Beatles’ classic Sgt. Pepper album cover sued the group’s record company for more money. Blake was paid £200 ($340) for the famous figures in 1967, but was now “cheesed off” that EMI have never offered to pay more money.
2001 – former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was banned from driving for six weeks and fined £400 ($680) for speeding in her Aston Martin DB7. Geri had been snapped on a speed camera doing 60mph in a 30mph zone.
2001 – The Court of Appeals of Rome finds Michael Jackson not guilty of plagiarism, reversing a decision made in 1999 by a lower court. Italian singer/songwriter Albano Carrisi had claimed that his song “I Cigni Di Balaka” was used in Jackson’s 1991 hit Will You Be There.
